Public Art
“Salt Marsh”, Scarborough Maine High School Ceramics I, Artist in Residency funded by the Maine Community Foundation.
I work with schools, communities or non-profits in making public art mosaic/ murals. The vision can be either large or small in the scale and evolvement. Each project is unique and tailored to the group requesting the service. Whenever possible the murals are assembled from handmade tile. However projects on a grand scale often require the assistance of manufactured color tile to allow for a more uniform and expeditious construction.
A typical mosaic project often involves a short history of mosaic and a look at mosaic artists, brainstorming and layout, making color slabs from wet clay, making handmade tile pop-outs (illustrative tile), glazing color slabs, decorating tile pop-outs, breaking tile, laying and gluing mosaic, grouting tile, sealing grout.
